Kameyama was a great Japanese emperor but it’s also where Sharp set up its new plant ready to churn out the 8th generation of AQUOS LCD panels.

They’re destined for the new Sharp TVs, adding two new sizes to the existing range: the LC-46D62U (46in) and the LC-52D62U (52in), filling the gap between the 37 in and the 65in. With this new plant, Sharp expects to increase production to 20 million units a year and address a wider market.

All new models will be equipped with Full HD resolution in 1080p, a TNT and analog tuner that supports *PA*L and NTSC. They’ll all feature Advanced Super View (ASV) and Black TFT for a 2000:1 contrast rate and a dynamic contrast of 10,000:1. The response time of 4 ms (time required for a pixel to change color) is also very impressive considering the meak evolution in the field over the past few months.

Sharp has managed to broaden the range while still cutting production costs by using a « mother » panel 1.3 times the size of those produced for the 7th generation. That means they can now make up to 8 LCD TVs out of one panel.

The LC-52D62U will be available in the US in October for 4,799.99$.
The LC-46D62U will be available in the US in October for 3,499.99$.
