Sony Playstation 3 : good things come to those who wait...in Europe
Bad news for video game addicts and high-tech gadget aficionados: Sony has once again put off the launch of its Playstation 3 for Europe. It had originally been scheduled for November 2006 but won’t actually be rolled out before March 2007 in PAL territories. Whereas release dates remain unchanged for Japan and the US (11th and 17th November).
The reason for this is the shortfall in blue laser diode production as these little components aren’t that easy to make it seems. And they do play an essential part in Blu-ray technology integrated in the PS3. Plants can’t keep up with the ever-increasing demand due to speedy development of Blu-ray in entertainment and computers.
So it appears Sony is offering its two rivals, Microsoft and Nintendo a chance to flog their XBox 360 and Wii respectively. But the Japanese giant is still looking on the bright side and plans to sell 6 million units by March 2007.
