JM Lab Tantal

Tantal speakers are the bottom-line range from JM Lab. Their relatively low price allows you to get into Home Cinema without being ruined, for a very reasonable listening quality.

The range is composed of eight Bass-Reflex speakers. Three small multi-purpose speakers ’ the Tantal 5, 505 and 507, a half-column ’ the Tantal 509, two columns – the Tantal 515 and 520, a central channel speaker, the Tantal CC5 and a subwoofer, the Tantal SW 20A.

These speakers have several particularities worth noting ’ given their quite-low price. They are equipped with speaker cones that are technically very advanced. One is able to find, throughout the range (except in the Tantal 5 and the SW 20A subwoofer), a titanium inverted dome tweeter ’ highly complex technology, of which JM Lab has become the master, an injected aluminium bowl over-sized magnetic circuits and linked double coils.

The Tantal 220 and 515 are Bass-Reflex hi-fi column speakers which can just as well be used in classic hi-fi applications as with Home Cinema. They have exactly the same high frequency speaker ’ an inverted titanium dome with 20 mm ferro fluid coil and 60 mm magnet. When it comes to the lower frequencies, the 520 is equipped with a woofer, and low-to-midrange, of 18 cm each. They are both cellulose cones treated with latex, completed with 25 mm coils and 100 mm magnets. The 515 is equipped with a woofer and low-to-midrange of 16.5 cm each. They both have both cellulose cones treated with latex, completed with 25 mm coils and 85 mm magnets.

The Tantal 509 has exactly the same speakers as the 515, but they’re mounted in a speaker box which is around two times smaller. We thus find an inverted titanium dome tweeter with 20 mm ferro fluid coil and 60 mm magnet, as well as 16.5 cm woofer and a 16.5 cm low to midrange, both having latex treated cones and 25 mm coils with 85 mm magnets.

The Tantal 5, 505 and 507 are all bookshelf type speakers. Their small size makes them very multi-purpose, giving you the possibility to use them either as classic hi-fi speakers, main Home Cinema speakers, or even Surround speakers. It’s worth noting that the Tantal 5 is a little more multi-purpose. It has an integrated wall attachment system which is very practical for Surround applications, and the fact that it is electro-magnetically shrouded means it can also be used as a central speaker.

The Tantal 505 and 507 are both equipped with titanium inverted dome tweeters with 20 mm ferro fluid coils and 60 mm magnets while the Tantal 5 is equipped with a Mylar dome tweeter with a 14 mm ferro fluid coil and two 45 mm magnets. When it comes to bass, the Tantal 507 is equipped with a low-to-mid range of 18 cm with a latex treated cellulose cone, double 25 mm coil and 100 mm magnet. The Tantal 505 is equipped with a low-to-mid range of 13 cm with a latex treated cellulose cone, 25 mm coil and 72 mm magnet. The Tantal 5 is equipped with a low-to-mid range of 13 cm with a cellulose cone, 25 mm coil and double 45 mm magnets.

The Tantal CC 5 is the Central Channel speaker of the range, possessing an inverted titanium dome tweeter with 20 mm ferro fluid coil and 60 mm magnet, and two 13 cm low-to-midrange cones in cellulose, 25 mm coil with double 70 mm magnets. The speaker is electro-magnetically shrouded.

The Tantal SW 20A is an active subwoofer ’ self amplified, equipped with a 21 cm Bass Reflex boomer oriented downwards, with a cellulose cone of 40 mm and magnet of 100 mm. The integrated amplifier delivers 175 W
